FOCA donut?

It is with extreme disappointment that I share with you something that has recently come to my attention. As you know I also run a blog called Thrifty & Chic Mom which is all about saving money. I recently came across a promotion in which Krispy Kreme donuts is giving away a free donut on inauguration day. Not too surprising since they gave away a free donut if you voted on election day. What is appalling is that the donut is to celebrate Freedom of Choice, sound familiar like FOCA maybe? Hmmm read this article for the full story!

  1. This is so sad. Like the article says "A misconstrued concept of "choice" has killed over 50 million preborn children since Jan. 22, 1973. Does Krispy Kreme really want their free doughnuts to celebrate this "freedom"?"

How can a company make such a bold statement and expect consumers to respond in a positive way? I mean the company has to know that there are pro-life people out there that would disagree with this statement. So in turn this is a two fold hit- First it is a blatant disregard for human life but second it is a blatant statment against pro-life individuals. Not the best marketing strategy Krispy Kreme. I won't be going there again.

  2. Found this on their website... makes me feel much better....

This is Krispy Kreme's actual statement (from their website):

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts' Inauguration Day promotion on Tuesday,
January 20, 2009, is offering one, free doughnut of a customer's
choice at participating Krispy Kreme locations nationwide. No
purchase is necessary. The promotion allows customers to commemorate
Inauguration Day by selecting one free doughnut of any variety at
local participating stores. On Election Day, November 4, 2008, Krispy
Kreme ran a promotion that provided customers with one free star-
shaped doughnut at stores nationwide. The Inauguration Day promotion
is not about any social or political issue.

  3. Thanks for posting what you found on the site Tara. The whole Krispy Kreme thing sounded quite disturbing.
