The 13th Day- Story of Fatima DVD

I came across this information about Ignatius Press releasing the movie 'The 13th Day'. This is a movie about the story of Fatima.

At that time Jesus said in reply, 'I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.' – Gospel of Matthew 11:25

Based on the memoirs of Sister Maria Lucia de Jesus dos Santos, and thousands of independent eyewitness accounts, The 13th Day is a dramatic retelling of the experiences of three shepherd children between May and October 1917.

The 13th Day, the first major motion picture by directors Ian and Dominic Higgins, opens with Sister Maria Lucia de Jesus dos Santos recalling the events that transpired between May 13, 1917 and October 13, 1917 in the Cova da Iria (Cove of Irene) region of Fatima, Portugal. The date is 1937 and Sister Lucia, at the Convent of Ponteverde, has been asked by her superiors to write down the events that she said "changed her life forever." cont here

Land of the Free?

Last night my husband and I watched Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed have you seen this movie yet? If not I highly recommend it. Ben Stein is the creator and narrator of this captivating documentary that takes a look at the scientific community and it's intense hostility towards Intelligent Design theory. This movie will frighten you yet sadly not shock you. It documents the blacklisting and intense discrimination that is taking place against scientists who dare suggest that Darwinism is wrong and that Intelligent Design has some credence.

The movie is very well done with great cinematography, excellent research and Ben Stein's famous dry wit. Anyone who takes the time to watch the whole movie can not deny that this is happening in our country and that the scientific community is not truly free and scientific at all. It is instead a group of "professionals" who are towing the party line for fear they be reprimanded and jeopardize their careers. The strong atheist agenda is shocking, at one point a Darwinian scientist states that he looks for the day when a modern utopia is achieved and there is no religion. Another stated that when you truly understand Darwinism you will realize not only is their no God, but their is no afterlife and no hope so their are no morals. Not only does he find this perfectly acceptable he then states that when his brain tumor returns he will put a gun to his head because their is no point or hope. What a sad way to live life. I think it is important that we educate ourselves on what is going on is this country and realize how quickly we are losing our true freedom.

Fireproof

So I am at Blockbuster the other night returning some DVDs and the woman in front of me is holding Kirk Cameron's movie 'Fireproof'. I haven't seen it yet but I have heard so may great things about it. (For those of you who are unfamiliar it is a Christian based film about saving a marriage).

The woman was asking the clerk about it so I chimed in with my two cents. I told her that I had heard it was a great flick, that Kirk was a great Christian, and it was about the beauty of making a marriage work.

She looked at me, looked at the clerk and said, ' Alright, let me go find another movie then.'

I was floored. It really made me start thinking about our societal view of entertainment.

Did she put the movie back because it was about marriage and two people making it work? Did she put it back because she didn't want to watch a functional movie that highlights the strength and courage it takes to make a marriage work? Did she put it back because there was no violence, profanities or sex?

Overall I felt as if my perception of the 'world' shifted even more negatively as I watched her put the movie back and walk away. We are entertained by gore, violence, sex and dysfunction. Our television shows, music, and movies reflect one dysfunctional situation after another. Kirk Cameron makes a move that is realistic and functional and it gets put back on the shelf because it is not entertaining enough. What does that say about our society?

The only thing I could think was to pray hard that we can try to live IN this world but not OF this world.

I am so proud of Kirk Cameron for using his time and talents to make a movie that celebrates marriage. If you get a chance (you know I will!) go out and rent 'Fireproof'. Help support those individuals who are trying to spread the Gospel message anyway they can....

Bella, a must see!

Have you seen the movie Bella? I not you are missing out on a fantastic piece of cinematography not mention an incredible story line. As we all know unfortunately a lot of the time films with a Christian storyline turn out to be hokey and not very well done. Enter Bella a professional, appealing and well written film. Bella won the 2007 People's Choice award at the Toronto Film Festival, Best Picture and Best actor at the 2008 MovieGuide Awards and the prestigious Legacy Award from the Smithsonian Institutes Latino Center.

I will not ruin the story by mentioning any details, but I will say you will laugh, you will cry and then you will cry again with tears of joy. This powerful movie has a great pro-life message that no one ( not even a pro-choice advocate) can argue with. It is is not pushy, aggressive or inflammatory. It is real, heartfelt and inspiring. I highly suggest you rent this movie or better yet buy it ( want to rent it free check out my other site Thrifty & Chic Mom on Mondays for a free Redbox code) Every one should see this film, need a way to get your teenage daughter to watch, mention the main character was named People Espanol's sexiest man of the year. For more info on the movie visit the Bella official site here
