Rosary Playdates

In the interest of getting to know us better I thought I would share one of the things that Tara and I do together. Yes Tara and I do know each other in real life outside of the blog world. We are involved in two great women's bible studies, one of which is AMAZING ( look for a future post all about it). Another thing we do is rosary play date. A group of catholic moms with children around the same age get together every Friday morning to pray the rosary for our marriages. We have a schedule and rotate houses. Each play date consists of toddlers and babies playing while we are praying then lunch. It is a great time of fellowship, support and faith. I get so much out of this group and dearly miss it when we don't have it ( like holidays or sickness). If you have young children I highly suggest organizing a group like this the benefits far outweigh any difficulties in organization.

Focus Friday

Focus Friday

Thrifty & Chic Mom hosts a thing called Focus Friday where you lay out your focus goals for the coming week and then come back the next week and report on how you did and lay out more goals. Lately I have felt a bit lazy in my faith so I am going to use Focus Friday to encourage me to be more active. Here is my focus for the upcoming week:

  1. Go to confession and put it on my calendar every month so I get back in the habit of going once a month

  2. Focus on teaching my daughter the virtue of patience

A good friend introduced me to the following website:

I have purchased books and coloring books on the Holy Mass, Mother Teresa, Mary and Jesus. And my three year old has really enjoyed them as well. I thought the cost was definitely affordable which always helps!

Here is the list of items that they offer:

40 Days for Life Spring Campaign

The amazing 40 Days for Life campaign is coming back. The spring campaign is set to run February 25-April 5 . If you have never heard of this or participated before this spring is a great opportunity to get involved. This is a wonderful campaign that organizes prayer for 40 straight days in front of abortion clinics all across the country. If your church is not participating take it upon yourself to organize a group in your city. For more information go here

I have participated in this several times in the past and it is always a rewarding and positive experience. If you are hesitant or uneasy about praying in front of an abortion clinic I urge you to pray about the matter, these children need us.

Bill Control Pill Inventor Full of Regret

Birth control pill inventor laments demographic 'catastrophe'

Vienna, Jan 11, 2009 / 02:10 am (CNA).-

The chemist who made a key discovery leading to the invention of the birth control pill has written a commentary calling demographic decline in Europe a "horror scenario" and a "catastrophe" brought on in part by the pill's invention.

Mr. Carl Djerassi, now 85 years old, was one of three researchers whose formulation of the synthetic progestagen Norethisterone marked a key step in the creation of the first oral contraceptive pill, the Guardian reports.

In a personal commentary in the Austrian newspaper Der Standard, Djerassi said his invention is partly to blame for demographic imbalance in Europe. On the continent, he argued, there is now "no connection at all between sexuality and reproduction."

"This divide in Catholic Austria, a country which has on average 1.4 children per family, is now complete," he wrote.

Djerassi described families who had decided against reproduction as "wanting to enjoy their schnitzels while leaving the rest of the world to get on with it."

The fall in the birth rate, he claimed, was an "epidemic" far worse but less highlighted than obesity. In his view, young Austrians who fail to procreate are committing national suicide.

If it is not possible to reverse the demographic decline, an "intelligent immigration policy" will be necessary, Djerassi said.

According to the Guardian, Archbishop of Vienna Cardinal Christoph Schonborn told Austrian TV that Pope Paul VI had predicted the pill would cause a dramatic fall in the birth rate.

"Somebody above suspicion like Carl Djerassi ... is saying that each family has to produce three children to maintain population levels, but we're far away from that," the cardinal said.

And yet sadly many women risk their lives to make sure they do not have children, what a sad world we live in.

Fasting for your marriage

As catholics we tend to fast for all kinds of important issues or occasions. Recently a friend told me that her husband fasts for their marriage every week and I was speechless at the generous and loving gift her husband is giving her. So it got me thinking if we fast for everything else why not fast for our marriages, the foundation of our family life. In pre-marriage counseling my pastor told us the one thing we MUST do everyday is pray aloud together. Here is my question for you what do you do to strengthen your marriage? Do you pray together, do you fast, or maybe you have another beautiful tradition you can share. In a world where marriage is constantly attacked it never hurts to add a little more spiritual support to your marriage.

FOCA Novena

I know I am a bit behind on this since the novena actually started on Sunday, but prayer has no time so do the novena a few extra times today to make up for the late start. Novena's are so powerful and if you are new to them this is a great one to start with. The Freedom of Choice Act is set to be signed Jan.21-22 for more information visit here

FOCA Novena:
-------------------------
Pray the rosary every day with the intention of stopping FOCA as well as 2 days of fasting starting Jan.11 and ending Jan. 19.

If you are unaware of FOCA and all of the terrible things it will do here is a list of just a few of the things FOCA will change:

  • Your taxes will help fund abortions
  • All hospitals including catholic will be required to preform abortions
  • Partial birth abortion will be legal and have no limitations
  • Parental notification or minors having abortions will no longer be required
  • essentially the government will take over the issue on abortion at a much deeper level
This terrifies me and should terrify you as well. Please pray. There is also a movement asking everyone to have a mass said on Jan.22 with the intention of changing Obama's heart toward the issue of abortion. You can read more about it here.

Bella, a must see!

Have you seen the movie Bella? I not you are missing out on a fantastic piece of cinematography not mention an incredible story line. As we all know unfortunately a lot of the time films with a Christian storyline turn out to be hokey and not very well done. Enter Bella a professional, appealing and well written film. Bella won the 2007 People's Choice award at the Toronto Film Festival, Best Picture and Best actor at the 2008 MovieGuide Awards and the prestigious Legacy Award from the Smithsonian Institutes Latino Center.

I will not ruin the story by mentioning any details, but I will say you will laugh, you will cry and then you will cry again with tears of joy. This powerful movie has a great pro-life message that no one ( not even a pro-choice advocate) can argue with. It is is not pushy, aggressive or inflammatory. It is real, heartfelt and inspiring. I highly suggest you rent this movie or better yet buy it ( want to rent it free check out my other site Thrifty & Chic Mom on Mondays for a free Redbox code) Every one should see this film, need a way to get your teenage daughter to watch, mention the main character was named People Espanol's sexiest man of the year. For more info on the movie visit the Bella official site here
